Catch a Flight And Rent A Laptop

It seems that one of the biggest game changers in technology and the Internet, Google, has done it again. Recent reports have outlined the company’s partnership with Virgin America to keep flyers online as they travel. The airline made an announcement on June 30 that flyers could rent Google’s Chromebook on specified routes. In addition, they will be able to surf the net via free Wi-Fi access.

Google has gone a step further by offering a Virgin America Traveler Chrome app. This will incorporate guides for several destinations and travel tips. Virgin is offering its passengers the chance to try out the Chromebooks, which are among the newest entrants to the laptop market. Judging by reports, the process is pretty simple as well.

At airports that have the ChromeZones set up, it is simply a matter of swiping your credit card. The laptop can be dropped off at the end of your journey. For now there is no charge as travellers will be given the chance to see how well the service, and indeed the Chromebooks themselves, operate.

The laptops will heavily utilize cloud computing to perform most functions. Since Google is one of the main proponents of the platform this is a good way to showcase its capabilities. The service will only be available on US domestic routes, with initial runs being between San Francisco to Boston and Chicago to Dallas.

Rent A Laptop

A person being able to rent a laptop would be a great way to get more laptops in the hands of people that can’t afford them on their own. Also people who only want a laptop for a short period of time would benefit from being able to rent one. Having a laptop or any kind of computer can increase the knowledge and productivity of many individuals.

They are great for entertainment through games and video websites also. The portability of laptops can mean that you could easily take them with you on business trips and vacations. If a person could rent one then they could have them for their vacation without having to spend all the money to purchase a brand new laptop.

While it is an advantage to be able to rent them there are a variety of things that a person should look for before renting a laptop. What the laptop can do in relation to what the person wants in a computer is the first.

A few examples would be if it is fast enough for people who want to surf the internet or if the graphics are good enough for people wanting to play video games. Secondly, people should look for what software is included with the laptop like anti-virus, word processing software, and internet access. If any of the preloaded software is subscription based, the length of the prescription should be looked at. Battery life and durability are always key factors when looking at a laptop for anyone for any reason.

When renting one the return policy and warranty would be helpful information also because they would need to be sufficient enough to cover standard usage problems. The price will definitely be a determining factor, whether it is contract price or annual rental fee. Other conditions of the contract like late fees, length of the rental, deposit amount, and conditions on the amount of the deposit to be returned and when are all necessary pieces of information before making a decision on a rental.

Lastly, the condition of the product upon return should be known. If it has to be in too good of a condition, like practically unused, then it would not be good to rent. Some good places to rent them at would be major electronics stores like Best Buy and RadioShack, rental places like Rent-A-Center and large department stores like Wal-Mart and Target.

Update: One of our readers, Larry Laven, sent us this list of things to remember when renting a laptop.

1. You will need have at least three references for most rental stores do not check credit to verify identity. But they will call the references to make sure you are who you say you are and how long they known you also most rental stores will have you complete and sign off on a contract that will bind you to certain conditions if the laptop is ever damage or stolen or if you make lapse in payment.

2. Know what kind of laptop you are going to rent. There are now Laptops and “Net books” and by that it means smaller lighter laptops that is not equipped with a DVD-Drive and not built to be the fastest but to be used for its portability and to quickly access the internet, uses USB devices to save data(IE usb flash drives) and not be used as a workhorse. Do a laptop comparison before renting.

3. Good to know how long you will be using it. Some rental stores charge by the week and others will charge you monthly and now some even let you rent by that day, so if you just need it for two weeks make sure you ask the customer service agent if there is a option to rent it weekly.

4. Decide if you do want to rent to own, some popular rental stores will give you the option to “rent to own” whereas you making rental payments to the purchase of a future laptop if you do like the laptop you are renting.

5. check out if the customer service agent has a laptop that you can test out before you rent the actual laptop, that way you know what you are getting and if that particular laptop is your style then you can choose that model or ask to test out a different one that suits you.

3 Tips For Buying Laptops On Sale

If you’d like to buy quality laptops on sale, you’ll need to do some homework first. After all, there’s nothing worse than buying a laptop at fifteen percent off the list price, and then discovering that another store was selling very cheap laptops. To help you avoid this problem, here are three computer-buying tips:

1. First, know what you’re looking for. Visit two or three different computer retailers, and examine a variety of notebooks on sale in person. Decide what you absolutely need in terms of functionality, wireless internet access, memory capability, and processor speed. Then, make a list of the specific types of computer that you might be willing to buy. Be sure to write down the exact serial number and specifications of the model that you’re looking at, because it’s easy to mistake one laptop for another. With your new list, you’ll be able to monitor weekly ads for sales on the specific models that interested you, and you’ll be able to compare the most recent price against the price that you have recorded on your list.

2. Once you have a list of models that you’d be willing to purchase, head to your local library. They should keep a good stock of computer magazines and consumer journals, which you can use to figure out a rough estimate of the average price for each laptop. While you’re reading these articles, make sure to take notes about consumer satisfaction ratings, possible glitches, and common complaints about each model. You may need to budget money for an extended warranty or repair plan, and you’ll want to factor estimates of those costs into your potential expenditures. With this information, you’ll be able to spot the best deals on cheap new laptops.

3. Now that you have a list of possible costs, and a rough idea of what to expect from each laptop, examine your options. You’ll want to consider whether there are any big sales coming up (like Black Friday or Back to School specials), and you’ll also want to ask yourself if you have any consumer loyalty cards or coupons that would apply to a computer purchase. It’s usually a good idea to take stock of these options and then wait for a few weeks, recording the advertised prices for each laptop on your list to get a sense of the overall trends in the market. If prices seem to be going up, for example, it might be a good idea to purchase a laptop during the next sale period, in order to get the best deal.

After you’ve spent some time working on your list, researching your potential laptop, and monitoring prices, you’ll be able to make the best laptop choice possible, and find the best deal that’s available in your area. If all else fails, you can always rent a laptop for the time being.

Buying A Laptop On Sale

If you are planning to buy laptops on sale then there are some things which you should keep in mind so that you get the best value for your money. We will discuss three important things which will make sure that you get a best deal on cheap new laptops.

First of all, the processor speed of your laptop should be good enough so that you can run multiple processes on it. The dual core or the quad core processors are the latest products available in the market, however the quad core would be a little bit expensive. But dual core processors can also serve the purpose.

Secondly the Random Access Memory (RAM) of your laptop should be high so that the functioning of the laptop becomes speedy. A high Ram would ensure that your laptop doesn’t take enough time while starting up. Equipping your laptop with an anti virus software would be of great help if you are planning to work on the Internet. Anti-Virus software protects your laptop against any kind of spy-ware or virus threat. If you are planning to buy a new laptop then you will get free software with it. However, one can buy it also as it is a very helpful tool to use Internet safely.

Lastly, if the purpose of your laptop is gaming then it should be equipped with a high definition sound card and a video card. Gaming laptops require very high configuration as the games are designed in a very heavy manner and compatibility issues might arise if you do not have a video card with you. If you are buying your laptop for simple purposes or home use only then you can settle down without any graphic or video card. There are lots of very cheap laptops that would handle basic tasks. If buying a laptop is out of the question for you, you might want to rent a laptop. You’ll have low monthly payments for as long as you want to keep it.

Where To Buy Laptops On Sale Online

In my last post I spoke about where to go in person to buy laptops on sale. This post is going to look at places to go online to make your purchase. I know from experience that there are more places to go online than there is to go in person, especially if you’re looking for very cheap laptops.

The first place I’ll talk about is Dell.com where the site is easy to navigate and won’t drive you crazy in the process. The first computer that I ever bought was done this way though Dell. At the time I didn’t have any true knowledge about computers and laptops, but the site made it a lot less painful for me. Let’s fast forward ten years and look at the site that it is now. The choices now seem to be endless and even easier than before to use. You have the option to build your laptop the way you want it and that even includes choosing the color. To help keep the price down you can alter certain options to fit your needs as well. Cheap new laptops are not impossible to fine if you don’t add all the bells and whistles.

Gateway is another laptop and computer maker that has their own site. Their site is also easy to operate. As with Dell’s site you can also build the laptop of your dreams, but if you read my last post, you’ll know that I’m not to pleased with their products. No that I mention it, their post-purchase customer service wasn’t too good either. To each their own, this is only my opinion.

If you want you can also go to the “big box” stores that offer a website that you can purchase laptop or notebooks on sale but since they sell many different brands and you are dealing with someone that you can’t see, it’s pretty hard to know if they know what they are selling you. For all you know they might be reading off cue cards to get though the sale.

Last but not least, there are some small mom and pop’s websites out there that are very good (as well as some that are real bad) that will take good care of you. I have one colleague who has used a couple of these places to buy his laptops and said that he gets great service from them. I won’t mention their name or their site, but believe me there are some small sites that will give you a great deal because they want to get your business. You might also be able to rent a laptop if buying one is not in your budget.
